Fake remote-job portals promise easy pay for completing "tasks" like rating products or apps. After a few small payouts, victims hit an engineered negative balance and are told to deposit their own money to "unlock" earnings. Often a lighter, faster cousin of pig-butchering that targets people who need income.
A long-con in which a stranger builds a romance or friendship over weeks, then steers the victim into a fake crypto trading platform showing fabricated gains; withdrawals are blocked behind endless "fees" and "taxes". 2026 syndicates now use AI to run thousands of these conversations at once.
