A caller said my grandson was in jail — then someone came for the cash.
The phone rang and a young man who sounded panicked said he was my grandson, that he had been in an accident and arrested, and begged me not to tell his parents. Then a "lawyer" got on the line and said I needed to pay bail in cash that day. A courier would come to collect it. I was terrified and nearly did it. My daughter happened to call, and I mentioned it — she told me to hang up and call my grandson directly. He was fine, at work, completely safe. I learned that a stranger coming to your door to collect cash is a scam signature, no matter the story attached to it. If someone calls with an emergency and pressure, hang up and verify by calling your loved one directly.
